network of the department of health services in the fiscal Year FY
2057/58 (2000/2001) has been reviewed and is presented in this Annual
Report. The report focuses on objectives, targets, strategies, and
analyses of achievements by major activities. It identifies issues,
problems and constraints, and suggestsactions to be taken. This report
also attempts to highlights trends in the coverage of services over the
preceding two fiscal years.
This
executive summary highlights key issues and observations emerging from
the analysis of each programme. Further programme information is
available in specific reports following this summary. The information
and statistics are used based on the data provided by Health Management
Information System (HMIS) collected on health institutions across the
country.
The
institutions involved in the delivery of basic health services in Nepal
during FY 2057/58 include 74 hospitals, 172 Primary Health Care Centers
(PHCCs)/Health Centres (HCs), 710 Health Posts (HPs) and 3,132 Sub
Health Posts (SHPs). In particular, it appears that the contribution of
Material Child Health Workers (MCHWs) and village Health Workers (VHWs)
at the Sub Health Post level is having a significant impact on the
overall improvement in health coverage. Additionally, 15,554 trained
traditional Birth Attendants (TBAs), 47,261 Female Community Health
Volunteers (FCHVs) and 15,349 Primary Health care Outreach sites were
also involved in service provision or referring clients for services.
A number
of indicators suggests steady improvements in overall health service
coverage, with outpatient and family planning services recording the
most remarkable increases. However, outbreak of encephalitis, declines
in malaria surveillance, quality of care, and other issues require
increased attention. |
